I had not yet discovered the many other blends that existed. My shopping was limited to the local cigarette store at that time. It can smoke slightly wet, but I've seen far worse. When starting out on my pipe smoking journey I was swayed by the online snobbery against OTC blends. For the life of me, I have no idea why this tobacco is so popular, nor why it is usually the recommended tobacco to new pipe smokers. Dare I even call this chemical goop 'tobacco'? Totally drenched in PG preservative. Most 'cigar divans' barely carry a pouch/tin or two. Even the dunhill store is spartan on pipe tobacco. Keeping in mind the price point and availability , I'm giving this pouch an extra point and can see myself picking this up again sometime when the budget demands. This is not a go to for me because I do not require an aromatic. A very mild tobacco with a lot of additives. The room note smells good, but the tobacco itself is weak. I like Captain Black White the best over the gold. Cant speak for the other colors; I haven;t tried them. I say that this is another great brand that is worth investing the money for. This fits the bill, very mild flavor, great room note, and contrary to a lot of reviews it doesn't smoke harsh if allowed to dry. This is loaded with humicant though, so drying on a wet pouch could be a lengthy process. The best thing about it is its flavor and the room note it gives. I haven't try different kinds of tobacco without flavors, but I can say it is not the kind you want if you are looking for the taste of a pure tobacco. The flavour and aroma was pleasant enough, and I didn't notice the goop that I tend to get with more upscale aromatics. Admittedly, I'm an aromatic smoker, and I like a sweet, smooth, light smoke. This tobacco is all of the above. There is almost no tongue bite to it at all to the Captain Black. The aftertaste is just a plain tobacco aftertaste as far as I can detect.
