Captain Black Cigars is an iconic brand that has stood the test of time. The brand was established in the United States in 1973 by the Lane Limited company. As one of the leaders in pipe tobacco, Captain Black has been providing trusted high-demand tobaccos for years now. Captain Black Red has a cherry cough drop note folded into warm tobacco. This is one of the few cases where the room note is superior to the tin note. Captain Black Gold is well not quite gold, but in that direction. Most distinctly its much finer in cut than the other two Captain Black products reviewed here. It’s not shag but this will lead to a pretty quick burn without careful packing and puffing. Captain Black has stuck to a basic look for the last seven decades, a solid color background which indicates which blend it is, with a black silhouette of a tall ship. MacBaren has a full line of Captain Black inspired tobaccos which are usually ranked higher than the original, all under the Seven Seas line. I did have Seven Seas Original years ago and my general tasting notes are fairly similar but I can note that the mechanics of the MacBaren version was vastly superior. TIN AROMACaptain Black Original has a rich and inviting aroma of vanilla, raisins, and milk chocolate. The pouches are the standard fold style with a bit of adhesive tab that lets you reclose the pouch quite a few times before it begins to fail. The added humectant means you can keep this out for several weeks before you need to be concerned about this drying out excessively. The tobacco used in these cigars primarily comes from regions with a rich history of tobacco cultivation – the United States, Brazil, and Indonesia. The blend of tobaccos from these regions, each with its distinctive taste and aroma, gives Captain Black Cigars their signature flavour profile. Despite the name change, the quality and taste of the cigars remain the same, and they continue to be relished by cigar enthusiasts in the country. Yes, Captain Black Cigars are still available for purchase in Canada. While traditional retail outlets may not stock them, they can be purchased through Native Tobacco companies, such as Native Smokes 4 Less. Captain Black has been the biggest selling line of tobaccos in the United States for almost fifty years, and this one is the original. Captain Black Original (Regular) is a mixture of Virginia, Burley and Black Cavendish with a distinctively warm, pleasantly sweet flavor and aroma. Captain Black is probably the most well known pipe tobacco brand. Captain Black offers a variety of  flavored pipe tobaccos that are very well valued among their class. I recently smoked 3 of the 5 versions and enjoyed them all immensely. I smoked Captain Black Regular (white package), Captain Black Gold (gold package) and Captain Black Royal (dark blue package). The other two versions that I didn’t smoke are Captain Black Light (light blue package) and Captain Black Cherry (red package).
