Its a little on the chemical casing side but there is also a nice light burley flavor in the background. That same little chemical presence is also in the room note. I will admit to liking the Captain. Yes, I still smoke a lot of this stuff. This tobacco is a must for beginners, and an easy everyday smoke for the rest. I enjoy Captain Black's vanilla meets raisins meets old furniture at the antique shop sort of essense. My grandfather never smoked it in his pipe, yet it somehow sort of SEEMS like he did. I buy better tobaccos, and for that matter cheaper tobaccos, which I greatly enjoy. Pipe tobacco is one area of life where I really get to exercise my penchant for trying new things. The room note is legendary, the taste is very pleasant, and I get no tongue bite. I never expected to like it, but this is a new favorite of mine. This tobacco is probably responsible for attracting more new pipe smokers in the last 50 years than any other blend. Thats what the Captain is for me,and with no calories. I actually wouldn't mind buying a whole coffee can size of the stuff to have on hand and to let it age a bit. Dudes, sometimes quality can lurk right out in the open at your local drug store. But don't be ashamed of the Captain! The stock I'm finding around here is high quality. Pipe puffers, this is a must have. Captain Black White was my first Lane limited product many years ago. I was attracted to it because of the room note. I found this to be my everyday tobacco for many years, and I still smoke it quite a bit.
