A collection of non filter and 9mm filter Peterson pipes for Christmas 2020. The pipes in this section have a black rustic finish, rose gold coloured band and a brown acrylic, fishtail mouthpiece. Phoenix pipes are the result of a collaboration between The Pipe Nook and Peterson. I wanted to offer a more affordable Peterson pipe than most, while at the same time expanding their 9mm offerings here in the US.
The long slender fishtail mouthpiece produces a pleasant, cool smoking experience. The pipes within this section are all non filtered and come in a smooth polished finish and with a nickel band. In 1890 Peterson invented a revolutionary new system to be included on many of the pipes in the range. The Peterson System, as it is still known, allowed surplus tobacco moisture to drain into a specially designed reservoir within the carved briar. Coupled with a patented gradiated stem, the Peterson System provides one of the driest smokes ever. They are XL size pipes that mirror the Kinsale and SH series of pipes with slightly shorter plip mouthpieces. Again this was a time of great change for the brand, the company having changed ownership on several ocassions. There are many Peterson pipes with sterling silver bands that do not have hallmarks though, even some in the Premier and Deluxe grades. He considers that at the end of the day, a pipe is a consumer product, loosely defined and the consumer wants something new every so often. I have found that there is a clear dichotomy of opinion on the views of pipe smokers on the Rosslare series, they either 'love 'em or loath them'. The business was then inherited by their 10 and 12 year old sons and was renamed Kapp Brothers after executors were appointed. Charles Peterson by then was the lead craftsman and managed the business on behalf of Fredrick and his wife's executors until the boys came of age.
