This was the first pipe tobacco I ever smoked. I have smoked a lot of very popular higher priced and high end tobaccos since I started smoking and I still come back to good old Captain Black 'White' original! It's a very mild easy smoking tobacco with no tongue bite whatsoever. All captain black brands are my favorite. They have a great aroma to them and they burn well. Good, mild tobacco… perfect for those who smoke a lot. But the smaller tins and higher prices are leading me to look for an alternative brand. I usually smoke Va's, light aromatics and the occasional english, but do find myself smoking this often. My only complaint is that after smoking this exclusively for a few days I do find myself wanting something with more tobacco taste. However, Captain Black White still gets smoked in my pipe at least once a day. It's a very good aromatic at a decent price and easy to find. I think its simplicity is the entire point. I can understand why this is the #1 selling pipe tobacco in the US. I've never been fond of Aros before, but that may change. I can easily see this being an all-day smoke. And the best part is that it is available just about anywhere tobacco is sold, and relatively inexpensive. My gums are always sore after a bowl of the Captain, and it can be rather harsh on the nose during smoking. Here's the deal, if you can get Lane's 1Q, do it because it is better due to the lack of humectants and all that jazz. But if you can't, and you are going to smoke an over the counter drug store tobacco, pick this one.
